Well, an M1A is mag fed with a rock and lock type system, so that you can do with either hand. The shell ejection is more up than out the side. My father was issued a Garand, which is the M1A's predecessor, when he was drafted, and he didn't have any trouble with that.

Trouble with AK's is the charging handle also acts as a brass deflector.

Now with an AR, left handed uppers are easy to come by, and the charging handles are ambidextrous.

Of course, there are some idiots in the world who insist I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about so feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt.

Oh hell yeah man I’m trippin’ out over here big time; say I thought Canadian’s liked pineapple pizza... either I have the wrong group in mind, or I’m merely a bigot :D

I completely agree; I’ve never had a problem with a semi auto, however if I wanted to enter a competition or something I couldn’t keep up with righty’s because I’d have to break my cheek rest to release the charging handle whereas they drop their empty mag, slap one in and carry on lol

I think you could do it. It's just a matter of finding the right tool for the job.
