Think my least favorite general in history, apart from Benedict Arnold, is the British general Bernard Montgomery; he definitely wasn’t on par with Patton and Rommel, yet acted like he was better than both and his brilliant plan “Operation Market Garden” to bring the war to an early end was a disaster lol yeah let’s try to take and hold 9 bridges with paratroopers and light units far behind heavily defended enemy lines while we attempt to relieve them by speeding through ambush after ambush![]()

That’s right.
Don’t spread yourself too thin. Even Washington learned from that mistake when he tried to keep control of New York by sending half his troops to Manhattan and the other half to Long Island.Flint1, PoleCrusher, dwells40 and 5 others Thank this. -
I seen a couple of those small sleeper shelves as I called them, but never drove them.
Before these fancy sleepers of today, we had set in & crawl through openings. I use to be 33” around the waist, the crawl through didn’t bother me back then. The last time I slept with my legs hanging out the window, I was in a 75 daycab Pete in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The drivers of yesteryear had it a lot harder than any of us. I’m truly thankful I got to experience trucks with Armstrong steering, wig wags, air assist steering, twin sticks, small bunks, no bunks, and quite a few Cabovers.
I can only imagine the guys of today being thrown in one of those old trucks,....... Hey my windshield wipers are real slow!!! Oh yea? Welcome to air wipers lol...... -
Germany would’ve won easily imo if Hitler knew his place, instead he sidelined and court marshaled many of the generals that brought them their victories; I disagree with a lot that’s said about the Germans at the time in regards to the Holocaust, it’s quite unfair to paint a broad brush, not everyone agreed with the hardline Nazi Party; imo most wars are waged because of conflicting cultures, beliefs, etc; merely basic human nature to dislike or hate something you can’t bring yourself to understandjamespmack, dwells40, cke and 3 others Thank this.

Hitler was less popular over there than some want to admit. My own family there at the time all thought he was a nut, and certainly wasn’t all that smart as a tactician.
One thing that helped make the battle of Stalingrad such a big loss because the nitwit underestimated Russian winters.
That said, the rest of Europe shares some of the blame for WW2, because I think if there were no Treaty of Versailles there would have been no Hitler.Flint1, jamespmack, PoleCrusher and 5 others Thank this. -
Call the US Marshals!!Nostalgic, jamespmack, PoleCrusher and 5 others Thank this.

Ha it would seem we agree completely; Germany’s culture at the time consisted of Darwinistic views such as if Germany didn’t expand then it wouldn’t survive, the treaty you mentioned did all but ruin Germany; imo if it weren’t for one nation becoming too powerful and the Japanese attacking us, we shouldn’t have been involved with some greedy Europeans mess; a lesser known fact that changed my perspective is the private sector in the US helped supply Germany with the machines they needed to produce their weapons of war since their factories were wiped clean under the treatyjamespmack, PoleCrusher, dwells40 and 4 others Thank this.
