Two things for the legality.
As mentioned you cannot have alcohol in the cab of the truck. Parked, or otherwise... If you must drink on the road, do it in a bar.
You also must be sober four hours before going on duty, so you need to finish drinking early enough that all the alcohol is out of your system then the 4 hour clock starts.
That said, it's typically best practice to not drink while out on the road because who knows what might happen when. I.E. if you have to move the truck during break for any reason like the trucks next to you are on fire, or you made a spot and gt told to move it, etc.
How and when to drink alcohol?

The most efficient ways to get alcohol out of your system are:
- Drink a lot of pure water;
- Consume Vitamin B supplements;
- Do a minimum one hour of active exercise daily;
- Eat fiber-rich vegetables and low-calorie foods;
- Eat foods that nourish the liver;
- Avoid drinking coffee, tea, and sugary beverages;
- Sleep for 8 hours or more at night.

Itd be best you drink 1 and call it good there. Sounds to me like you're an alcoholic who is trying to weasel your way into being able to drunk as much as possible without legally getting in trouble.Flyswatter2112, Black_Yeshua, firemedic2816 and 3 others Thank this. -

My friend who is OTR, Stopped at a rest area one night and had 18 hours to kill. He figured with the extra time it would be a good night to slam a few back. Only problem is he didn’t catch that this particular rest area had a two hour parking time limit. And they strictly enforced it. He gets into about his fifth drink and a nice buzz going and all the sudden a state trooper is pounding on his door. Trying to let them know his two hours are up and he needs to Move on...He didn’t get a DUI because he finally emerged from the sleeper Beth and flat out told the trooper he couldn’t move the truck because he had been drinking, but was off shift, in the sleeper berth etc. The trooper actually let him stay put, but gave him a stern warning to plan where he parked better.
The Point being, even though technically by the letter of the law you can pull off having a few drinks in the truck if you’re in the right situation, you never know what’s gonna come up. The minute you stick those keys in the ignition you’re driving career can come to an end. It’s just not worth it. Drink on your days off and your home time and avoid possibly loosing your career.nredfor88, buttmeister, homeskillet and 2 others Thank this. -
