If you feed power backwards into the outlet, you need to kill the main so it doesn't feed the grid, and possibly electrocute a power worker. Killing the main will isolate your house from the grid.

I would run non-ethanol gas. Ethanol blends have a shorter self life. It’ll run on oxidized gas, but the carburetor will need to be cleaned more often.

Good point. People also recommend running it completely out of fuel before you store it.

    Ok...so, the power goes out.
I bring out my new generator and crank that rascal up.
I take a 220 plug and plug it into the dryer thingy
But, first I turn the main breaker off
    and then I'm set?

I'll admit, I'm not qualified enough to answer this properly. I would call an electrician, or wait and see what @91B20H8 says. I don't want to get you in a bind.

They do recommend doing that. But when my power goes out, I want to be able to start it and go without having to bother putting gas in it. So I use ethanol free gas with Sta-bil in it and leave it full. I do shut the gas valve off and let it run the gas out of the carb before storing it though. I also run it for awhile every few months and it always starts on the first pull. At least the first pull after I remember to turn the gas back on.

Ahh, yes. That is even better. The point is to get the carb empty.

    LOL. That's the truth.

A licensed/certified electrician will install a transfer switch. A Redneck will shut off the main and all individual breakers, hook up the double male plug, fire it up and begin introducing loads via the breakers to tame the surge
