I knew a guy that lived in Anchorage for a number of years. He used to break into cars at the military base. Lot of convicts hiding out in AK. He’s been missing for years now.

I agree. In my youth I spent money on cars, women, booze, gambling and weed and I just blew the rest of it!Northeast Hillbilly, Speed_Drums, tommymonza and 7 others Thank this.

You have to be very tolerant of their state bird the mosquito. I've gone fishing up there a couple times, and you kind of have to enjoy wearing a net over your head. It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

When this bullcorn with the beer virus is gone I'd love to take a roadtrip up the Alaska Highway.

I remember the polar vortex we had last year. I can only imagine if it was -30 in Michigan what it was in Alaska. I remember heading out on a Monday pulling up to pilot and starting the pump on my phone but the one by my house has really sensitive pump stops. So I got my pumps going went to climb in the truck and it flipped down..activated it again and the exact same thing happened... think I pumped 15 gallons and said it’s alright I have a half of tank lol

My highschool welding teacher was an old school guy that had worked as a pipefitter in saudi arabia for aramco in the 60’s and was one of the top pipefitter supervisors on the Alaskin pipeline construction. He had stories of the place being like the old west and Las Vegas all in one place. G rated for us kids of coarse.

I've been told that 'being missing' was a main reason for going to Alaska. Also been told going missing isn't uncommon, and living in the Adirondacks I can imagine the Alaskan wilderness is unforgiving even for the basically well prepared. Extreme weather takes only 1 mistake to go from life to death...

Alaskan here... Remember that Alaska is 1/5 the size of the entire lower 48. We are the size of Texas, Montana and California combined. This means there are several climates that range from rainforest that barely get any snow at all at sea level, to arctic areas that bare ever melt out.. and everything in between. I've live here for 45 years and I wouldn't even consider living in Fairbanks, too cold even for me. Anchorage and the area within 100 miles north and south of it are fairly mild and tolerable. I'll never live anywhere else. Stupid reality shows have put a spin on Alaska that is mostly untrue.
You can make a living here driving a truck, but it's an entirely different world than driving in the states. While arctic conditions and weather have their downside, being home two or three days a week are often realities for Alaskan drivers. The majority of our roads are two lane and they can get pretty rough.650cat425, Chinatown, SmallPackage and 2 others Thank this.
