There was a couple here in Nashville that was found passed out in their car. In the back seat was a two year old strapped in his car seat. When the police woke them up they admitted they had been just driving around using heroin and chugging cough syrup. Obviously no job. This is the drug problem. It makes people want to do nothing but stay addicted and keep using. Obviously having to steal to support their habit. I don't have an answer but I know this is not right.

There is no good solution to the drugproblem.

Taking the criminal out off the druguser can yield benefits for society .
    Less petty crime.
Less doped up drivers on the road.
Children off drugaddicts under higher levels off childwellfare.
Less money in the prison system.
Police more focussed on other crime......

Fact is the war on drugs is lost and can never be won.
    Time for a new approach.

    Ps i don't like drugs.
    Have never used them.
Hate to see so many waisted lives because off it.

Kinda brings a whole new meaning to random drug testing.
What drug do we get to test?

Do we get to claim that being found to be high while on duty is our legal right? Will it cease to be illegal to drive while intoxicated? At what point do we accept responsibility for our actions, why are we passing laws that treat adults like toddlers?

Somebody who drinks a few beers without driving afterwards, without losing their job due to alcoholism, without abandoning their family and without any drunken domestic violence is a responsible adult able to use a drug responsibly. There's no reason why that same adult shouldn't be trusted to use any other substance that they choose so long as they continue to keep off of welfare, feed their family and not disrupt society in any negative way.

It all comes down to personal responsibility, can we be trusted to make responsible decisions? Smoke meth, or go to work? Shoot up heroin or go to parent teacher meeting? Drink a bottle of wild turkey or file the taxes?

It's crazy to try to regulate social problems with law. Most of the decisions I make daily are stemming from a strong foundation built up from a young age. Being surrounded by many good role models made a huge difference in the adult that I've become and I have no doubt that under different circumstances, surrounded by bad role models or a lack of guidance as a kid I wouldn't see the world as I do today.

Strong family units build better adults than strong drug laws can. Treatment of addiction starts at childhood not after the person has already lost everything.

On the bright side, hookers and blow for your 34 reset!

Just stop sending EMS out to overdose calls. The problem will soon sort itself out.

Here is the timeline of decriminalization of marijuana in Oregon, the first state to do so in 1973. It was totally legalized for medical and recreational use in 2014. Logic dictates the same states that followed this path will do so with this whole new class of drugs. It took 40 years to go from step one to step two in Oregon. Look for this trend to take place much faster in like minded states.
This should be one of the most interesting experiments in all of human history.

Legalizing dope, as much as I don't like the stuff, was a pretty smart move here in Canada. I mean so many people smoked it already so may as well tax it like booze and make some revenue off it.

Haven't heard of it causing a spike in impaired driving either like so many claimed would happen.

I’d agree with the decriminalization under one condition. Any crime committed with high would have a mandatory doubling of sentence.
