Hi Guys and Gals.
My name's patricia, and I'm a student at NYU Film School. When I was little, my dad used to tell me about how my grandfather was a trucker for a few years back when he was a boy, and I've always been fascinated with the lifestyle. My dad himself was a working man, but a construction worker. Long story short--I grew up to be a documentary Filmmaker, documenting the triumphs and struggles of the working man.
Although I'm not shooting a film now, I am writing a thesis for my Labor studdies seminar. It's a 25 page research paper on the LIFE and FAMILY OF THE AMERICAN TRUCKER. My professor told me I could do it all from books, but I don't think that's fair. WHO BETTER TO TALK ABOUT A TRUCKER THAN A TRUCKER?
I am interested in hearing from:
TRUCKERS
Male
Female
Young
Old
Married
Unmarried
Divorced
With kids
without kids
THEIR WIVES/HUSBANDS/SIGNIFIGANT OTHERS
I want to hear how you keep the spark alive
How you parent
Why it makes your relationships better/worse
How you make a home on the road
How God figures into your life
How you see trucking in relation to your patriotism
Trucker's Family

40 hits and no replies? WTF? Did everyone lose their train of thought?
Hi Patricia,
You'll see from my profile I'm an older guy with a year or two driving, married w/children. I see you're from NYC one of my more favorite places to deliver to and an MTA card holder! Yes I do love NYC and when there I like to park in the Williamsburg area on Meeker Ave around Metropolitan! I enjoy eating at the many restaurants and clubs in the area and I also head over to Manhattan for food and fun! I'm not afraid of the adventure but I also go down to Ground Zero to pay my respects.
I was a "second" responder after 9/11. My company helped Clear Channel here in Springfield get together 1 of 4 truck loads of supplies donated to them to help in the recovery effort. My load went up to Stewart AFB up in Newburg, NY.
It was the most important load I've ever hauled in my 32 years of driving and one I'll never forget!
The thing I remember the most about the load was I had a big cardboard box that I had to put into the cab of my truck. Ths box had a lot of cards and notes to the firefighters and police. I read a lot of them when I had to stop for my break but the most heart warming thing in the whole box was this little pink purse. It was from some little girl and in this purse was a hand written note that only said "I hope this helps" and it was a $1.30 worth of pennies. It was probally every penny this little girl had and to give it to the people trying to saves lives was the most unselfish thing anyone could have done! It brought tears to my eyes when I was holding this note in my hands!
And still does when I'm standing at the viewing area looking down on the rubble and construction of the WTC.
Good luck with your project, I'll check back and add something else later. Or you can find me on facebook or MySpace look for a "rollover" and my pic in the profile above!

Maybe we have so many hits because she has herself a site since 2007 called Life As A Trucker.....strange why show up here now two years later.

So...Tish did you not think we know how to google? -
Another hit, like the idea but have yet to see realistic representation. It's usually either glamorized or demonized and I don't wish to contribute to those versions.

Just what does the fact that she may or may not have a "site" have to do with it?
