I love Myrtle Beach. Wife won't go there anymore cuz she doesn't like the Golf Widow thing. Don't know if u r into motorcycles, but I like Myrtle's Bike Week better than Daytona. Enjoy!

    Week of 9/28

Vacation is over. I am running 2 dedicated runs to N Chicago and back. 1500 miles each and the one I pick up Friday has a local delivery included. Left Monday around 10:00 and will drop the load at P&G Wednesday afternoon. Have to get an early start Thursday morning since I load in N Chicago Friday at 6:00 AM. I then deliver a load to Dial about 90 miles away, come back and get loaded again for home. Should get back Saturday afternoon if I don't burn too many hours with the local work.

l also found out this week that Superior pays for my medical card renewal. I went to my doctor last week for my yearly physical and since my card expires in November had him give me a dot test as well. Found out I have to go to SPCR's doctor where we get drug tested.

Local load did not go well. Got to Dial promptly and was rewarded with an all day sit while they ran multiple lab samples on another load that was sitting in the rack I needed. They used up 13 of my 14 hours for the day so I couldn't get back to Gillette to load for home.

Wound up at a tiny fuel stop across the street from the plant. I sort of made myself a parking place between the end fuel pump and curb. I called the local walmart and asked the asst manager if I could park in their lot...got a rather rude no.

I have an 8:00 AM load time in the morning. At least I am paid hourly on this load since its local. I plan to turn in all but my 10 hour break. It will be over 15 hours. Hopefully they won't tell me the layover rules apply. I don't see how you can get layover running local.

Bottom line is this means an extra night in the truck. Should get home Sunday afternoon. Load delivers Mon AM so it also shoots down a 34 hour reset. Good week money wise though. I logged a lot of sleeper berth at the plants today and will still run close on my 70. Thankfully I have 11, 10 and 13.5 hours rolling back starting Monday so even without a restart I could run some dedicated next week.

    Rob,
Been following your post for a long time, I went to the Wilmington terminal, met with TM and did the application. Everything seems great so far. Got a call today they did my backgroung everything is good just needf to go in and do physical, piss test, and the road test. Can you give me any advice on the road test, what they expect to see, did you do a pti before you rolled out. Thanks again for all the info, I'm nervous about making the leap from flatbed to tankers but your post has really got me interested. Superior seems like a great company the TM seems like a good guy a fellow NY'r relocated. Hope to be on board soon.

They just had me hook to a tank in the yard. Then we bobtailed over to P&G at Browns Summit and picked up an empty and brought it back to the yard. Pretty basic. I did a pretrip but not as detailed as the DOT one. No brake pump down or anything.

I got loaded with no problem Saturday, drove a little more than half way and shut down for the night at the Loves it I-71 and US 35 in Ohio. I am glad I chose not to push it farther. I didn't idle overnight since it was a beautiful sleeping temperature. When I headed out early the next morning as soon as I pulled on the road and braked for a couple of traffic lights my air warning went off. I looked down and saw 60 lbs of pressure .

Fortunately I was right in front of the fuel entrance for the TA on the other side of I-71 from the Loves. They are one of our National accounts for repairs so I pulled in, parked in front of one of the bays and went inside. Air pressure had dropped to around 40 on the secondary gauge. I left the engine idling. After giving them my info for about 10 minutes I went out to attempt to pull the truck into the bay. Both gauges were 100lbs +

They found a small air leak in a trailer compression fitting, fixed it and I was on my way with only about a 30 minute delay. I made it back to the yard Sunday afternoon with about 30 minutes left on my 70 for the week. Keep in mind that I started this week on Monday. I was so worried about getting back without running out of hours that I totally failed to realize that Monday would be the 8th day. I didn't pick up last Mondays hours until Tuesday that week.

I didn't discover that fact until I got to the yard Monday morning, pretripped my truck and filled out my log for the day. I decided to do the recap so I would know exactly how many hours I had left in case they needed me to run some local stuff after delivering. Had to call dispatch at home at 5:15 AM and tell him I couldn't deliver the load that morning. I just dropped it on the yard and went home. They had a local guy deliver it later that day. There was nothing I could do legally about my hours but I should have realized Sunday afternoon and called then.

I didn't get another load until Wednesday. It was a dedicated paint load up to Holland Mi. I got back Friday night. As I was starting out Friday my air gauge did the exact same thing it had done last week. I pulled on the shoulder of a ramp entering I 69 and got out my computer to find a repair shop. I sat there for about 15 minutes. During that time the pressure dropped to 30. Then once the engine warmed up it started climbing and charged up. I pumped it down a few times and it seemed to be working fine. I then figured that the repair from last week hadn't actually fixed the problem but the truck had run fine. I called the shop foreman to let him know it needed some work before Monday and ran the empty tank back to the yard. I am thinking it was either an air governor or compressor that worked fine once the engine warmed all the up. They replaced something over the weekend.

This week I picked up a load from Stepan in Winder Ga on Monday dropping it on the yard for a local guy to deliver. That's around 570 miles to start the week. I will leave this afternoon with a system load going to Houston delivering Thursday. That gives me around 1700 miles paid and I will be 1000 miles from home so this week should be pretty good once they load me back towards the house. Maybe I will get one of those Cognis loads that drops in Mauldin SC Saturday.

Well this trip's started out with a bang...literally. I got my load around 1:30 PM and headed south on I-85. Pulled into the South Carolina rest area at mm23 or so to take a leak. As I was walking back to my truck I see a truck pulling into the spot next to me. Then here comes a car hauler at a high rate of speed trying to get into the same spot. It looked like 2 women at the mall at Christmas going for the same parking spot. He hit the rear of my trailer so hard it broke the welds holding the rear tandem axle. I get to spend the night here and we are going to transfer the load to another trailer in the morning. Car haulers brakes failed.

    Rob,
Sorry to bother you so many questions. I was all excited to switch to Superior I have been reading post on another message board you were on and the more I read the more nervous I am getting about switching. I don't want to go from the frying pan to the fire. I've been with TMC for almost two years and I use to love it, but they took away our ez pass, toll reimbursment is almost impossible. now they cyt our trucks back to 62 and are cutting our pay. on the other message board there was a guy i believe his name is Carlos he had nothing but good to say and then I was getting closer to the end and he left. Is it getting tough over there? can you really make the money they say? and is it easy to get home? I don't mind working and staying out from time to time. I know you work at a differant terminal but Joe over in Wilmington says I can get home just about every weekend he said every 5-7 days but once you get home is it just enough for your restart or are you actually home for a weekend. I really want to switch, I'm tired of tarping for $10 and everything in Wilmington is either chemical or gas. I'm also looking at Florida Rock and Tank but I can't ever get anyone to return a call. Any answers or advice is appreciated.

My tractor is fine. I will probably deliver the load once they get it transferred into another tank.
