no that's not a "lightly descion" to make.

like the one i'll have to make in a few months or so to pull my dad's license away. he's over 80 now and to take away his license won't make me feel like a hero to him either..................but, it'll have to be done............

Touche - it's not an easy decision but if it's for the best - so be it.

Saw the Dr. today, to add to my woes, I now need to use an inhaler - asthma! Was never able to shake any cold or flu since the meningitis and it's taken its toll. Have had chronic bronchitis for a few weeks now that I'm slowly beating.

Have been at Glad now for a bit over a month now and can honestly say that I don't miss the driving of the big rigs. Of course, I don't have the freedom of the open road, but I also don't have an impossible schedual to maintain and I'm home each day - my only objection is that it's a swing shift but not all that different to driving.
It's hard yakka doing what I'm doing but I feel better for it - using muscles I forgot I had, it's noisy but a clean enviroment, take a break whenever I want and just do what is asked of me. Will start looking into computer work after the new year if I can't get into the one they have on offer.
    Cheers! :occasion5:

Aussie,so sorry to hear of your tough decision. Maybe you can workout a little and feel better with the extra time. I always figure the man upstairs knows what he does with each and everyone of us. I believe you'll see in the near future, and be more happier with a different racket and be home more. I have 2.5 years to go to 62 to retire, hope I can,not used to hanging around longer than 2 or 3 days. Got to stay busy. Be sure and keep us informed and stay in touch,i too, enjoy reading your comments.

Have lost 15lb since started doing this. Won't get back to my arrival weight in the US 10yrs ago - 175lb, now 190, as I was working horses then - amazing what not sitting down for hours does. :hello1:

Now 5 months since I last drove a big rig and as I feared the Meningitis that started my downfall is still making life miserable for me. My mind is'nt what it was, fears I never had, caution that seems to border on triviality. Memories of the past, my childhood, even recent events have no start and no finish - everyday I struggle to remember what the day was and what I did and short term is virtually non existence. I don't know what it is to dream now as silly as that sounds. The Dr's offer no explanation as they seem to think I'm recovered fully but I know better as I'm the one running in confusion. I sleep 10 hours and I wake as tired as I went to bed - no desire to do anything, no strength to make an effort. Sometimes I think that God made a mistake in letting me survive.
When admitted, my body went into self protect mode - arms and legs had gone blue-grey, eight heated blankets on me to try and warm me up, cold packs to help bring my temperature down, headaches are still constant, still light sensitive, legs still play up.
Tears are something that come too often, depression is something I don't accept but I have it big time.
How does one deal with this? An act of God, a test to see if I'm worthy of admission to Heaven, or just plain bad luck. Still getting constantly sick and it's something I've never had to handle before. I was too old to get Meningitis!

Aussie - I do not have the physical issues you have but have suffered from depression and irrational fears for many years (a family history of this)...

I can tell you that the support of my family has made a significant contribution to improving my outlook - please reach out to yours...

Please also look into support groups in your area - the one I joined has been most helpful to me to hear that I am not alone with this....

Just one of my irrational stories - just passed my CDL road test last month - I was so afraid of failing I cancelled it on 3 occasions! - the 2nd time I actually 'threw up' in my car on the way to the test!!! Talk about irrational fears!!

    There is hope....

May God Bless you and help you in your recovery...I'll say a couple for you today....

If I ever decided to stop trucking for a period of more than a few years I think I would turn in my CDL for a regular vanilla drivers license. With a regular driver's license you can take defensive driving if ever given a speeding ticket. With a CDL that's not even a possibility. I like my clean record.
