Hi from another burnt out, laid off guy in his 50's wanting a change and new direction in life.
Don't want to go Dr. Phil and bore you, but briefly I was a Systems Admin and Senior CAD Designer in an engineering firm that I grew to hate, do not want to return to college at my age and work in another office environment tied down to a computer ever again.
I drove a Mack dump truck for a local contractor when I was younger for a summer job back when I was in school and loved it so maybe this is back to the future for me.
I'm currently enrolled in a Trucking Tech school program to get my CDL and Hazmat qualification by the first of the year so please excuse if I ask stupid and redundant questions form time to time, I promise I'll search first.

Hey DP, my story is similar to yours. I'm in the panhandle, early 50's, no more office's for me..:) I am looking for a cdl school at the moment. Just curious, what school are you enrolled in, is it in the panhandle area?

    Baack Thanks this.

I do belvieve there is a lot people who are doing the same same thang as we are. I my self worked as electrician supervisor for my career. For 20 years I worked to climb the company ladder. When school, Stayed late, worked on hoildays, gave up vacations. Worked sink. I know stop crying. Well I'm don't. My lady just keeps remimding, of I told you so. I got dumped. I to said no more construction. Know more office ### kissing, Same thang day in day out. My dad was a truck drive when I was a kid. He took me a few times on the truck with him. I remember that I love the open road. Seeing new places. When I was 21, got a job on a moving van. I was a driver just a helper. Even tho I love the big rigs. So I went to truck driving school same place as brad357. Back in 08/21/09. Got my cdl with a hazmat. Going to be a truck driver. But with the economy down. The job search has been a real challage. I live in the Florida panhandle. Which I found out is not the best place for trucking. I didn't have a lot of choices to choose from. So after alot of crash and burns. I end up with one offer. As I have been told its a bottom feeder called(covenant trasportation) going 12/07/09. For me its beats unemployment. Or a least it might pay the same. Anyway Good Luck.

    Baack Thanks this.
