How does it make any sense that someone off the road for a couple of years is a bigger risk then someone who has had speeding tickets and DUI?
That is the info I got when applying to one place.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I drive for KLLM and I know guys who where in your same situation. they hadn't drove in a few years and all they had to do is go out with a trainer for 2 or 3 weeks then they where given a truck and sent out on there own. KLLM will even count your past experience if you can verify it and you wont start out on the bottom of the pay scale. 2 guys i went through orientation with had to do that. One only had to go out with a trainer for a week.

Lets put it this way lets say we have two drivers A and B. Now driver A had 20 years out OTR. Now lets say his wife got sick so he comes in off of the road to be with her. After three years she passes away so he decides to go back out on the road rather than sit in that big old house by his self. He shouldn't have any problems right?... WRONG!
Now driver B just finished his six week course at Billy Bob's School of Jack-Knifed Bob Tails. Hes never even backed a truck up into a dock and he is now considered by the insurances companies to have MORE experience than what driver A dose.
How is that right or fair, yea I know life isn't but still. That a driver of 5, 10, 15, 20 or more years of driving experience is suddenly considered to have ZERO, none, nil, zilch driving experience simply because he took a three year brake. Its simply the insurances companies sticking their noses into an area that it doesn't belong. Has I said I could see them reducing the amount of time that they would recognise for someone who takes an extended brake. But to reduce it to none? you cant justify that no matter how you try.
Let's see here...
1 to 5 years exp, scaled 3 months to 1 year accordingly.
6 to 10 years, 1 to 3 years scaled.
11 to 15 years, 3 to 5 years scaled.
15+ years, no less then 5 years
Of course there would also have to be a scale for how long the person had been out of trucking. But still no less then three months of recognized experience if that's what they are going to give to johnny come lately newbie. -
I contacted KLLM, they are not hiring in my area. ;(
