Everyone please listen to this super trucker. By the way super trucker ive seen people with chains on go into the ditch at 15 mph. but who am i too argue with 19 years experiance?:biggrin_2559:

Ok so you think people who use chains or have driving experience on them are "super truckers".

You saw a wreck on a chained truck and deduced that it was unsafe to chain. Ok Do you apply that same logic to unchained trucks?

Bottom line is using chains to drive a truck is not unsafe or the states and insurance companies would not allow it. So my point is that your excuse does not hold water with the facts.

There are many ways to wreck a truck with or without chains on it but most accidents occure during lane changes, following to close, or backing. NOT chaining.

You really do yourself a disservice when you discount relevant experience and the facts as just the rantings of super-truckers. You based your misguided premise on a claim from someone you said was well experienced yet none of that was on a chained truck?

My father has been driving truck for well over 54 years, and never once has he chained up. He's always told me that if the weather is bad enough for chaines then it is not safe to be out there.

    Case closed.

I just happened on this postand had to put my 2 cents in.I lived in oregon most of my life.chains are a safe tool to get your job done.As a trucker on the west coast it's just part of the job to use chains when needed. The dangerous part of chains are putting them on on the shoulder.and trying to not get run over.If you dont plan on using the chains you are required by law to carry. Please stay in the truckstop till conditions improve.Dont use the shoulder as a parking lot if you can help it.

The reason is when you leave the yard and want to go west instead of the long way (east). You have to make a u-turn on that road. The trick was to pull into the dirt lot next door and turn around and make a proper turn around. Then they said you couldnt do that anymore. So everyone else was just making a U-turn and some "jerk" that will not be named made a big deal out of it. The road is not as busy as it used to be.

I worked for Knight for almost three years I liked the company for the most part. I only had issues with dispatch when I wasn't dealing with my home terminial. I did run 11 Western, but I only ever chained one time. As for trailers in California or other places, make dispatch pay you to give a trailer and have them promise that you will not need another one if you lose yours because "so and so" needs a certain number per there contract at any given time. I always made them pay me for moving trailers, extra pay for BS stuff or what ever I needed. They were good to me and backed me up when I had a customer issue.

Over the years Knight has been the best over the road job of them all period.
And I go way way back in my Trucking Career. I only lasted 4 years with them but that was because I had problems with grandkids at home, basically home problems and it made me cranky. Plus I left because I knew the economy was going to get bad. I worked for 3 more outfits after that and the truck lines got worse each time. The last truck line was a full driver nightmare so I got on the sidelines waiting for the economy to get better. I know the difference.

One thing I'll never forget from my orientation at marten transport, is when the Lady giving orientation tried telling us NOT to chain up, and a bunch of Billy Bigriggers were blustering about how they'd "sling iron and get paid". She walked away from the podium and into her office. Three minutes later Randy Marten himself walked into the room, introduced himself and said: "If you own your truck, I don't give a ##### what you do with it. If you put chains on MY truck or trailer, and then get into ANY kind of accident, your fault or not, your FIRED!" Then he promptly walked out. I will NEVER chain up if I can park safely and legally. I have too many mouths to feed at home to risk my life making some fat cat richer. If a trucking company owner felt the same way, then there MUST be some merit to the attitude. You ever hear a dispatcher say that again, get their names, and report them to safety. I doubt they'll keep working for long.

Well I too really liked Knight Transportation, at first. That is until they started blaming and accusing my wife, who was on the truck with me of doing things, blaming her for wanting to go home on weekends, which as a regional driver I was promised from the get go. My DM had even gone so far as to tell my wife to shut up. but what really pissed me off was the fact that they were going to force me to do my 34 hour reset in Rochester when they knew from the day before that we needed to get back home to buffalo because my father in law was in the ICU at millard fillmore Hospital. When I refused to stay in rochester they not so politely told me to clean my truck out.....so we did and i think it was the best decision i could have ever made!!!!! SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD RELIABLE COMPANY STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE FROM KNIGHT TRANSPORTATION!!!!!

They probably blamed your wife, cuz every time you talked to them on the phone....they could hear here *itch'n in the background.

I've heard the stories before.......by wives on this board and boards like this.

If they are not on the truck, they are calling your company from home and *itch'n to them that way.

The company didn't hire HER.....they hired YOU, and "your wifes" interaction and attempted relationship with a company she dosen't work for means absolutely nothing to them.

Take care of your own business, and tell your wife to keep her trap shut!!!

Yah; I know you probably think I'm wrong.....but let me ask you this: Every time a loved one of yours has an issue at work (say your wife or Mom)....do you go to their work and raise cain? Of course you don't!

As much as I hate to say it; in this particular case....Knight did nothing wrong.....YOU DID.
