Do you find that you get better results using a good dispatcher that know good lanes hot markets etc or dispatching yourself and going where you want

You don’t go where you want, you go where the money is. You’re out here to chase a dollar, not sight see.

Your question is one you must answer for yourself. Everybody is different, different strokes for different folks. Some thrive dispatching themselves, some tank out by doing so.

if you plan to dispatch yourself, 1st you need to learn what lanes pay the best. What type of freight to haul & what type to stay away from. You need to learn dead zones, and not book loads with them big eyes that saw a big number. Loads into dead zones can pay well, but the deadhead out can eat away all that profit.

I dispatch myself, but I'm an old guy and I have very specific places that I like to go and certain loads that I like to haul. I don't like to get too far from home anymore so I really don't want anyone else driving themselves crazy trying to figure out what I want to do.I drive myself crazy enough.

I agree but I don't think some people are capable of successfully dispatching themselves. Some have their hands full with all the other aspects of O/O life.

Personally though, I'm with you Freddy. I want to go where I want, when I want and haul what I want to who I want and from who I want. I'm well over 200k this year doing it this way and I haven't been away from home but 3 or 4 weekends. So doing what you want AND chasing a dollar can work if you are diligent.

I use a dispatcher I'm home almost every weekend and from February to now I'm over 200 also. She calls asks what I want to do or don't want to do we put a plan together I'm usually booked out a week ahead of time.

Edit... My dispatcher is a big brokerage that has a lot of their own contract customers. I can still turn down loads and such

Many dispatchers want you to sign an POA. I could never bring myself to do that. Also, I'm a control freak so it ain't done right unless I do it myself. So it's all about me, myself and I.

2.18 loaded after their cut. Is what it was a couple months ago. I bounce some bc I like the way it works out. Was 1.96 all miles then I haven't paid attention in last month or 2 been doing same circle almost weekly
