This unit is an automated mechanical trans not an automatic hydraulic.
The unit does have an inertia brake/hydraulic clutch on the bottom of the trans which has the ability to slow/stop the input shaft for gear engagement. When the main clutch is dragging it will overcome this brake easily.

Do you believe the inertia brake is being over come so the spinning input shaft Isn’t stopping and can’t engage?
If the clutch was dragging and not fully disengaging wouldn’t it pull the engine rpm down at idle or possibly even stall the truck? -
I DO....
Think of it as a manual. The clutch brake could never overcome a dragging clutch. Just depends on how bad its dragging. Once the trans goes into gear you have alot of mass to hold the drag back. It'd take alot more to stall the engine. Could you stall the engine with a manual clutch brake?Last edited: Nov 14, 2020

I've pulled a clutch on a manual transmission that was so f'd up the discs were warped about 2". Clutch brake would not hold it. If I shut off the engine, popped it in gear and restarted it with the clutch pressed it'd idle without stalling.

I use to get all the clutch jobs I wanted from the local Ryder rental yard just because Id go pick them up and drive them back to the shop with a dragging clutch.....just so they avoided the tow bill.
Avoid traffic lights or time them the best you can.........never an issue.

Yeah this has a 121000-1 | Eaton Heavy Duty DM Clutch | Eaton style clutch in it. No clutch pedal.

The TECU sees the input speed too high and just inhibits the gear. I knows it cant engage without clashing. It wont even attempt it to prevent grinding. Its too stupid to know that it has a mechanical condition with the clutch and doesnt log any faults. It just sits there and does nothing like an untrained dog when you give it a command.

I would think with what I have seen on the automotive side is that a 2007 model year TECU should have the capability of logging a logic code for unexpected input shaft speed?
Also on the automotive side I have never seen an inhibit action triggered with out an associated code?
I am also thinking it should set a code for an inertia brake failure if the TECU sees input shaft speed with the inertia brake Commanded on and applied? -
There was a inactive code SID 55 FMI 7 Flash Code 28 (which are all related to Clutch issues) when it came in but after I cleared it out it never came back. That is using Jpro and Roadranger. No active or inactive now.
