The FMCSA doesn't care. They only care that you can account for the last 3 years in general and the last 10 if you have a CDL. Trucking in the US is a highly regulated business. This is one of those regulations. I recently was speaking to an HR type about this. She told me they hired a guy recently out of a Federal Prison for Tax evasion. They hired him and his Driver Qualification File contains that time period as in Prison. Not ONE thing wrong with that.

Tell them the truth, that you were in the witness protection program, but that the guy you ratted out, died in prison, so I need a job!

    Why not?

If that’s what he wants to do he certainly doesn’t need my permission.

Good to know. Also, a very good way to spend your time.

Exactly. Why not? Driving a truck is something I always wanted to do.

Driving a truck was something I always wanted to do. There are other things I can do - Dignitary Protection, cop in a school, part time cop in my town, armed guard for UPS in Manhattan, etc etc yadda yadda yadda. Been doing the cop thing for 20 years - want something completely different.

That’s odd you have to account for YOUR time. I took 18 months off work some years ago when I quit long haul. Never a issue returning to driving job. Too much regulation in USA IMO. None of their ####ing business.
