It is kind of wierd that you have to account for your time. Could have been living back with your parents taking care of them or something? Not sure why that would be the government's business...as long as you were not out robbin and stealin' and doing drugs....

they all ask for employment history. it's just what is acceptable is the difference.
I got a job after the 2007-08 economic fall and was out of work for 1 yr. spent most of it caring for my wife. went back to work after she recovered.
they new job asked and I told them ,no big deal. they took me on a road test and off I went.
although I must add ,I had 25 yrs previous experience. some verifiable some not 3 had gone out of business.BIGOtrucking Thanks this. -
The answer is the same. It's a federal requirement to "attempt" to gather all the required information. If you haven't worked or previous employer fails to respond there is procedures for that. Namely they need to document their attempts, or some verification of not working like proof of pension. if you really are worried, you can read Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR)
Some companies won't hire with a gap, but most will.Dennixx Thanks this. -
See? That is what I am saying...how does one account for that? It is not like you had a W4 form for that. Luckily they took you on! Altho would be kinda $h*tty of them if they did not account for that "gap" while taking care of your wife.Numb Thanks this.

If New York City wont verify my pension ( they generally do), I have statements to back it up along with proof of pension deposits along with Pension Award Letter with NYC seal on it.
I am probably worried about nothing.Dennixx Thanks this. -
it was a smaller co. so they are more versatile.
I've never worked for a mega in all my 35+ yrs.BIGOtrucking Thanks this.
