5.1.3 BIODIESEL FUELS
Detroit Diesel supports biodiesel as a renewable fuel. Biodiesel fuels are mono alkyl esters of
long chain fatty acids commonly referred to as Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME) and are derived
from renewable resources through a chemical process called transesterification. Detroit Diesel
approves the use of biodiesel fuel blends up to 5% maximum by volume in diesel fuel providing
the following three conditions are met:
□
The biodiesel used in the blend must meet ASTM D 6751 or EN 14214 specifications.
□
The biodiesel used in the blend must be sourced from a BQ-9000 Accredited Producer or a
BQ-9000 Accredited Marketer.
□
The finished blend must meet the fuel properties listed in Table 5-1 and either ASTM
D 975 or EN 590 specification.warranty denial.
Detroit Diesel is responsible for the materials and workmanship of its engines. Failures attributed
to the use of fuels which do not meet industry standards are not the fault of Detroit Diesel and will
not be covered by the Detroit Diesel product warranty. While Detroit Diesel supports the use
of B5, the use of unacceptable quality fuel that does not meet industry standards can result in
Freightlin........there is a lot lacking.

Actually, if you look around, even Swift isn't using Fartliners as new replacement equipment anymore...they are International and KW...since Swift lost big bucks in lawsuit with Freightliner about excessive warranty costs due to the way Swift turned the trucks down (remember when Swift was governed at 57mph), well all the engine repair/failure was finally determined to be due to the turn down...Jerry went with KW for his Lease/Operator fleet, and now big contract with International for the company side...stopped using Volvo years ago also.
[there you go BHW, constructive, informative, and to the point...sorry about the previous post!...I was "in a mood"]
bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
The school I am at has a 1400 mile KW T-2000. The windshield is leaking. The truck is out of warranty due to age. KW won't fix it.
-
explain please, why would setting the governor to 57mph cause the engines to fail over time.
thanks -
I don't know the particulars of this case. But a lot of Detroits would be running about 1100-1200 rpms at 57 mph. Too low for a Detroit.

How hard is it to pop-out the windshield and replace the rubber seals?
No wonder trucking in America is running to the bottom-feeders...nobody can even "turn a wrench" any more.......
-
The cruise RPM is way to low for this design of a engine. To cruise at a low RPM like this the motor needs to have a stronger engine block, stronger connecting rods, and even a better and bigger crankshaft to deal with all the extra low end torque and harmonics. The C-15 ACERT was designed with all this in mind and when you open up the bottom end it shows.otherhalftw Thanks this.

Thanks guys for the technical help..all I know about the issue is Swift got clobbered because of the "turned down" issue. Again thanks for the input!
-
You need a wrench to replace a windshield? Would that be a left handed or a right handed wrench? And is it for both sides?
-
Not a wrench but a "Honda Tool" would be helpful if you get frustrated......
