    I am looking to drive 10.5 hours to receiver, but I can not drop trailer till the next morning.

    So, I would have 9 hours in sleeper (not 10) before I had to move trailer 1/2 mile.

    Can I use the 8/2 split, or in my case, 9/1?

    After dropping trailer go back in sleeper outside of receiver for 1 hour to get my 14 back?
    Or would it have to be 2 hours back in sleeper?

    I'm using the KT ELD this trip .. I don't usually use this thing but this week I'll be outside my 100 mile radius.

    Nope. It requires a minimum of 8 in the sleeper and 2 either off or sleeper. You can do 9 in the sleeper, but you still need the 2 to do a proper split.

    If I questioned about that, I’d have to explain why it take me 20 minutes to move 1/2 mile.

    I’m not that good of a liar.

    @ZVar

    So, after taking the 9 hours in sleeper, on duty for say 30 minutes, back to sleeper in my case for the required 2 hours. After the 2 hours in sleeper, do I get full 14/11 back? Paragraph below says NO, is that right?

    After you take your second split of the pair, whether it’s the shorter or longer of the two splits, do you start your hours fresh?
    No. To reset your hours, you need to go off-duty for a full 10-hour break. If you use the split-sleeper options, when you go back on-duty after any off-duty split period, your remaining time available is calculated by subtracting from your 14-hour clock and your 11-hour clock the time you were on-duty between the two breaks.

    “As the rule states, you start your count from the end of the first break, [minus] whatever you used in between,” said Hansen. “If you were on-duty for five hours between the breaks, then you have nine hours left on your 14 and six hours driving time, if you drove for those five hours. It’s whatever’s left after you subtract out what you did between the two breaks.”
