Overfilled a tanker

If you overflowed a 3k compartment with 2940 gallons, how do you figure that wasn’t a retain? Considering you should have had 60 gallons of outage, you probably had over 100 gallons left in the compartment. Can’t trust only your scully to verify retains.

At 2940 for a 3k compartment, the system had probably already passed the first trip and was slowing loading-probably why he was able to stop it with minimum spillage.

 

Is it not part of your loading procedure to pail check the compartment?

When I hauled fuel, prior to loading we had to take a pail and drain the retain into it before hooking up the loading arm. This insured the compartment was empty before loading.

 

Sounds like someone is short some fuel? Should have flushed those compartments?
That probe should have shut off the system. That trailer should be locked out of that rack.

 

I'm sorry but that is just not correct. You hit that sensor going full blast and you're going to have gas shoot out the top. I've done it a few times in the past 25 years.

Maybe things have changed from when I pulled tanker. But I used to haul gas for Amoco years ago and I hit the sensor many a times and never spilled a drop.
