There are still a few things you need to check. 144 PSID230 is a code for the ECU. FMI 4 and 5 pertain to voltage. Check the harnesses that connect to your ECU, on the driver side of the engine. Make sure that the locks havent wiggled loose. Also,, manually inspect them for debris,, corrosion and moisture.. Also check the two fuses for Qualcomm. Pull them out, and see if you have the same issues.

Pretty poor answers here so far. This is a bad power cord or ground to the Vehicle ECU.

this problem is when the body and cabin emergency stop power switch system not working properly or when the problem in the system is bypass. mid 144 the SAE j1587 data link is primarily used for programming , diagnostic and data reporting.

I had this issue and I was able to fix it cleaning up all battery connections and grounds to the frame. I know this is old, but this thread is about the only thing that comes up in google searches.

    Matt1924 and highway762 Thank this.

    UPDATE:

My earlier comment on a bad power cord may have been presumptuous. I've been getting this code for years, but there's nothing ever really wrong with the VECU while driving. Look carefully at Volvo's description of the error: FMI 5. I studied the description once again the other day: Software has been shut down because voltage too low. So basically the thing got turned off unexpectedly. Yes, the listed possible cause would make sense if you had a bad harness. But here's another theory: For years, whenever I'm ready to walk away from my Volvo for an hour or a few days, I turn it off, pull the key, hit the kill switch and walk away. I do this because I don't want any battery drains whatsoever. Today, I thought, What if the VECU wants a minute to shut down when you turn the ignition off, and hitting the kill switch interrupts it and sets that code? I went into Diagnostics and looked at the last 2 times the code had been set -- both in the evening, both around the time I was done with a long day of INTERMINABLE MAINTENANCE THAT I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF (pardon the side note). That jives with hitting the kill switch at the end of the work day two work days in a row. As a test of this theory I energized power via the kill switch tonight and started the engine. A minute later, I turned it off, and then waited a minute before hitting the kill switch. The code was not there a minute later after I re-energized the system and checked. So maybe that's all it was for all of these years? Probing around the VECU with a multimeter to check voltage, checking wire after wire at the firewall for continuity -- all a waste of time. Just wait a bit before shutting down main power and this code never shows up again? Anyone else hitting a kill switch this way?
