Hi, I have a 2012 Peterbilt 386,with a Cummins ISX, but this truck came with a engine that was manufactured by Cummins ReCon ,with date 01/18/16, now I have a few questions, is this fuel pump from 2016 also?I have to be worried with this fuel pump?, any way to know if this fuel pump has ceramic or steel plungers?

If it’s a Recon, it’s probably because the original fuel pump made a window in the original block and the entire engine was replaced by Cummins.
The Recon most likely has the updated fuel pump with the steel plungers.Last edited: Feb 25, 2020

Could have steel plungers but don’t let your guard down.
How many miles?
I am told they still have had some failures with the updated pump.spsauerland Thanks this. -
I would most definately check or replace the oil bypass valve and make sure it's the updated one. Cheap insurance if you ask me. Tough call being a 2016 rebuild.
Dave_in_AZ and spsauerland Thank this. -
I'm looking to buy a 2017 Kenworth T680 with a Cummins in it. Dealer tells me the fuel pumps in the 2017 models had been updated and were not a concern. Is this correct?

Yes. And it cost an earth shattering $250 to have the ceramic ones changed to metal at Cummins in the old engine.
I had almost 700K on mine before I swapped them.
The 2017 also has an extra piston ring that eliminates carbon packing. -
Yeah, go ahead and get those plungers checked and or rebuilt ASAP.

Is this something a older ISX suffers from too? I have a 2003 IH with a ISX

No. This is an issue in the 2250 and 2350 series motors. Which started in 2012 maybe late 2011Bigtruckdrivah Thanks this.
