Does anyone know what it's like to be a city driver for fedex freight? I'm in Buffalo NY. Starting pay is like $26.50 an hour. I wasn't sure if you get overtime or how many hours a week. I don't mind working the dock. Just curious how the job is. Also being new will I have to do linehaual also?
Thanks everyone

That’s some darn good starting pay.
snowbird_89, Texas_hwy_287 and Buffalonytrucker92 Thank this. -
O/T after 8 or 40. Whether Buffalo is a terminal you’ll get Ot Is a different story.
I’d ask during the interview about the linehaul aspect. Some terminals use city drivers as extra boards who do run linehaul stuff as well.
Generally speaking, I enjoyed my time at FXF, good company to work for. Like any place it has it’s ups and downs but I made an absolute killing there once I jumped from the city board to linehaul.Farva, Lumper Humper, snowbird_89 and 5 others Thank this. -
Where did you get that starting pay from? We have four different pay scales across the company and none of them start that high. I suppose it’s possible that they are starting new hires out a few steps above the normal starting pay, but it seems unlikely.
OT is very specific to each individual location, you would have to ask someone in Buffalo to find out for certain.
If you do end up having to cover a linehaul run, it would almost certainly be a short hop to the Rochester hub. Again, you would have to ask someone who works at that location to find out how often it might happen.Gearjammin' Penguin, Buffalonytrucker92 and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
It said the starting pay in the paperwork I was filling out. It said $26 hourly and .63 milage.Texas_hwy_287 and McUzi Thank this. -
That’s really good, sounds like they’re starting drivers out on step 3 of 4. Should be 1 year to top out with a $4/hr and 6cpm raise.Texas_hwy_287 and McUzi Thank this.

I just hope the hours are there. The hourly rate means nothing if I'm only working 40hrs. I'm willing to work 70 it doesn't bother me. As long as the family is happy ill deal with the rest.
Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this. -
Well don't expect 70. But be sure to ask in the interview. The manager has nothing to gain by lying to you. They'll follow the STAR format (tell me about a time questions), then give you a chance to more informally ask about the job.
Edit: I'm assuming you don't already have the job, because these are the types of things to ask beforehand...Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this.
