i worry more about the broker who you pull a load for and before you get paid he goes bankrupt or out of business. have any of you dealt with this or are those just stories and whats the best way to try an avoid that kind of situation, other than having alot of cash if you take a hit

You can't. It will happen sooner or later. I think I've gotten stiffed maybe 3 times since 2001. Not common but there is no way to totally avoid it

TQL will load you as a newbie. Their rates aren't the best but they have a ton of loads going everywhere and they pay fast. You just have to learn to read through the BS on their load board as far as where the loads actually pick up and unload. The first thing you need to ask when you call on a load is where the actual pick and drop are. Also never take what they first offer you. They will almost always bump up at least a little depending on how badly they need to move the load.

Also subscribe to DAT/Truckers Edge. Its not only a good way to find loads but a good way to find brokers. Just be careful who you deal with. Make sure to read comments left by other carriers.

As someone else mentioned, once you hit the 6 month mark and especially if you have established a safety rating you start getting calls from some of the better brokers.

    Good Luck out there!

You'll soon learn that is TQL's calling card.

I've had a few brokers like Kirsch, Landstar ranger, and King of Freight give me the we need 3 months in business ####. For whatever reason it was worse when trying to get loaded out of Southern California than when I was in TN. TQL has a very bad reputation and I'm sure its earned but at the same time the one load I pulled for them paid great and their quickpay option was cheaper than most with a payment status indicator.
