Hello all,
Looking at starting with a new company and looking at non permanent cb options. Ideally something I can plug in for power and drop in a cup holder just to scan for traffic info.
Knowledge is power and knowing is half the battle.
Any recommendations and opinions would be appreciated.
Have a great Thanksgiving and keep the rubber side down

They arent to good depending on your truck and other factors they only work for a mile or 2 if that helps honestly a cb like a basic cobra for like 40 bucks is just as easy and portable as long as your truck is speced for it already and if its not they sell vice grips where you can attach an attena and hang it outside it may take a few minutes but its easy i used to slip seat and did it every day.check out amazon
tththey seem to have alot of offers and reviewGettingRolling Thanks this. -
Hand held electronic devices are illegal in CMVs. I would probably say that its not that great an idea.. besides the fact that I have never seen a hand held CB that worked at all. There are small CBs out there and you can get magnetic antenna mounts and it can all go together in minutes

Hand helds don’t work well enough for highway use. We use them when we had to walk behind a superload and steer it around a turn.
A Cobra 19 works much better and cost half as much as a hand held. -
The best use is what you see most of the time. As @TripleSix has said, and I have seen a lot of trainers using them with students.

I was wondering about this myself, and was hoping what I first heard was wrong.
This tells me it wasn’t. -
You can get a portable CB and generally, you should be able to hear most of what's going on around you. Might I recommend checking out a regular CB radio hooked to a magnetic stick-on antenna? I used to use these all the time in my POV. When I was doing repo I used one with a vice grip type holder. You have options.
