U bolts need to come out, and should be replaced. Basically it needs to come apart, and you need a torch

I think the bar broke off because he ran with a broken u bolt.

Bar broke off cause the bolts were loose. Drill em out and replace the bolts. No need to remove the u bolts. Make sure the new bolts arent too long that the bolts bottom out on ubolt before they tighten down the bar.

They suck to drill and should be preformed by a qualified person.

What about welding a nut on the end of the stud and spinning them out? The heat should help loosen them up too.

Are they bolts or are they studs? The Air Trac from the 70’s and 80’s used 5/8 studs with nuts on the diff end like in the picture and 5/8 bolts with nuts on the spring hanger end. Fine thread too. Makes for great fun busting loose to replace bushings when corroded. They usually twist off like that anyway.

Welding is usually my first go to. Would go about a bit differently and it also requires a special skill set.
