I have 2012 peterbilt 386. I have problems with it cranking up. It takes couple tries to get it started then drive for couple hours turn it off and again takes couple time to start. I have change the starter and sent it back to have it checked and came back good. Replace new batteries, alternator, ignition switch. Themechanics can’t find the problem. Has anyonehad the same issue with their trucks. I’llappreciate any info.

What motor?
What do you mean.
Key on, and it turns over a couple times, no start. Turn key off and try again, then it starts?
Check for fuel leaks, losing prime.
Check grounds. -

If it cranks good, then it is probably fuel related, check valve or leak letting fuel drain and then you have to crank to get pressure back.
shatteredsquare Thanks this. -
Definitely losing prime. Before cranking, turn the key on and listen for the fuel pump. It runs approx 30some seconds. Repeat the process once more, then crank. If it fires off, it'll verify the loss of prime.

I saw on a video a bubba truck tech changing fuel filters say to bump the ignition, just once without letting it turn over, that it makes the fuel pump start running for 20 seconds or so as a way to prime before wasting cranks.
is that
1. true?
2. not bad for engine timing/sync to bump ignition? -
What if you don’t have a electric fuel pump?

I want to appreciate to all for your comments. This morning I tried something different I turned the switch to on and nothing. So I decided to used the jumper cables from one truck to other the truck turn on on the first try. I’m thinking it’s something electrical. What you guys think?
