Tesla claiming 621 mile range for its semi truck

I zoomed in on it. That is indeed an IFTA sticker,next to Tesla’s DOT number. I’m guessing California politics had something to do with it!

Probably because when you pop the hood, it's got an X15 under it. "Electric" vehicle...

 

I am sure in near future the fuel tax is going to be replaced with a mileage tax. Only thing holding it up is privacy concerns from ordinary citizens on being tracked. Not that they aren’t now with the phones. I hate to see it but that’s where we’re going. But yeah an IFTA on a electric truck. Guess they probably have pay equivalent.

 

The vehicle will probably log when where and how much when charging through the spy Network called IOT.

 

I've been seeing a lot of clean/neat car haulers using peterbilts and western stars over the past few years moving Tesla autos around the country. Each and every time we cross paths I've wondered the electric version.

I was on assignment and test driving electric trucks on the track out side of Mojave, There is a governor that limits the power produced, Increasing the torque will make it easily out perform a diesel but not at 600 miles per charge. If you set them to be comparable to say a 400 hp Detroit it will out perform it, also has better motor braking that a diesel. I was not driving Tesla's I am not at liberty to say who tractors we were testing, kind of like cant say whos tracks we used outside of Mojave and Kingman, But the power delivery was smooth and strong and yes I was pulling loaded trailer, about 75,000 gross.

I get a kick out of this half-baked Tesla semi thing it's like something designed by a 6th grader.

As far as the chargers go, that thing is supposed to be equipped with a 1 megawatt hour battery. To charge that in 1/2 hour you need at least 2 megawatts of supply. So each and every charging stall would have to be supplied by a 480 volt 2500 amp three phase circuit.

Let the size of that sink in. The wire for that circuit would be about an inch and 3/4 in diameter after you strip the insulation off. And each one of those circuits would require 4 runs of that wire. And that wire would only be heavy enough to run that amount of power maybe 100 feet at the most. If you wanted to go farther it would have to be significantly heavier.
