Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

Oh that's right you just reminded me of another thing I didn't like (the GP shop). Also I just remembered a less important (but still pretty important) thing I didn't like: because Poly loads naturally have a higher priority than non-Poly loads, occasionally when a non-Poly load gets in the way of delivering a Poly load on time, backhaul needs to sacrifice customer service for the non-Poly load, including going so far as to tell the driver to lie to the customer about the delay. As was the case with propane heaters in dry vans, this was another thing I refused to go along with. I remember telling a customer once something along the lines of, "sorry, but we're a plastics company so we have to give our loads precedence over yours."

 

I have often said Poly was the best OTR company I have ever worked for in my 26 years of driving and I loved driving for Poly. I have tried numerous times over the years to come back but have not had any success with that. I didn’t leave because of anything they did or said to me or something I did, my Dad had a health issue and I left because at the time we weren’t sure what the outcome was going to be and that straightened out and I came back but a few months later they informed us his cancer was not just in his bladder but basically all through him and gave him 4-6 months so I left and went back home and 3 months later he passed. A year to two years after and continuously since I’ve been trying like crazy to get rehired but unfortunately they must’ve taken my leaving personal because I can’t even get an acknowledgement.

 

They never responded to my rehire applications either but I don't think it's because they take anything personal. A recruiter told me over the phone that they raise the bar for rehire applicants.

When I hired in December 2010 there were only two of us in orientation. The other driver was a rehire who left Poly to start a business, with his son if I recall correctly. It evidently didn't succeed well enough for him to live on, so he returned to Poly after only being off for something like 4-6 months. I was lucky to have him as my classmate; he already knew the ropes and was always quick to share his knowledge with me.

 

You want to get rehired with poly,
Your gonna have to skip the process.
That's means getting one of the supervisors,
Pat or Martin, on the phone and pleading your case.
Swallow your pride for a 10 minute conversation.
It's worth every penny.

The only place up from here is UPS pulling
Doubles with a pension.
I wouldn't leave here for any place else.

 

What speed are you guys governed at?
What fuel stops do you use?
Last, what is the current monthly mileage target? I know you guys choose when and how long you go home for, but if I remember correctly you had to meet a certain goal each month as far as miles are concerned

 

We are governed a 68mph.

The fuel stops are all brands, but only specific stops scattered throughout the county. You get a book at orientation listing them. Some areas are tricky because certain states have no fuel stops.

For example if you get a load to Chicago from Grand Prairie, then get backhauled to Grand Prairie, you will be driving the full length of the state of Illinois twice without any fuel stops.
