Machining counterbores on a lonestar. Worst model out there for engine work.

That looks amazingly bad to do. You gotta be seriously bummed out when those trucks show up. Some of today's internationals can be so difficult to repair.

    Flint1 and Shawn2130 Thank this.

I did an oil change on a Workstar with an ISX once. That was enough for me to say I'd never lay another finger on an Intertrashional if I could help it.

Pushbroom: It’s hard to see in the picture but that lonestar doesn’t have a dog house?

    650cat425 Thanks this.

We have one, a 1990 International dump truck.

Can you do a oil change and service on it? ;)

    650cat425 Thanks this.

Seeing you use the Monaco counterbore tool group, they I'd share some information and story here! They gentleman that cut the counterbores for me has been cutting them around my area since the 80's. I can remember being pre-school age and he cut a Big Cam in a 359 Peterbilt for lower press fit liners in my garage (was my Grandpa's at that time)!
Just so happened before he came out, I was killing some time so I watched the latest Paccar Power train newsletter. One of the topics was the Monaco counterbore tool group is now approved for cutting the MX counterbores after being "not Paccar approved" for some time. John had the back story because he knows and talks to owner of Monaco tool Joe. Joe is in his 70's and a stand up guy. He has warrantied a tool for me and paid shipping. Paccar's beef with first tool Monaco had is it wouldn't cut the the relief out that is part of the ledge. Here is picture for visual Screenshot_20201205-222552.png
Joe designed a cutter bit that that has correct radius and can be plunged back to cut the full ledge. Sent to Paccar and they only had one beef. He set it to cut 0.050" in and they would like to see .046"! That's how picky Paccar is with their engine! Side note when counterboring a MX to raise height back you use a thicker flange liner (0.0016", 0.0098" and 0.0197") by the Paccar way. A 12.7 Detroit Series 60 shim works perfectly too!
