Some nostalgia there from days gone by. My understanding is truckers used to sling a hammock under a van, or flatbed to get some rest. Right place, right time, right temperature & I'd try it out..
I'm an oddity here that runs a single drive axle truck over the road pull drop deck freight. I say run whatcha brung man. If it takes over the road in a day cab for a few months or a year to establish yourself, do what you gotta do..![]()

You can run OTR in a daycab but unless you can haul extra freight without a sleeper it may not be worth it. I built a daycab a few years ago to run the road because in my operation a daycab allows one extra unit which more than pays for the hotels.brian991219, Speed_Drums, singlescrewshaker and 7 others Thank this.

A bucket between the seats and a 2/12 board over that, for naps. Motels aren't that expensive.

Guess nobody remembers the days when you ran coast to coast on I-10 you’d see trucks parked with drivers feet hanging out the open windows as they slept across the seats.

Thanks for sures man it’s something I’m on the fence about, I’m local currently but wanna do longer hauls with them day cabs, dealing with the 10hr break could be trick, but manageable I think. But dealing with DoT might be a whole other story!singlescrewshaker Thanks this.

Does running daycab thru different states require those state permits? Wasn’t sure about the DoT side of it

Is there something about the day cab that is more appealing to you than having a sleeper?
Plenty of guys run local containers and all that sort of thing with sleeper trucks.
You really have to be in some seriously tight quarters to not be able to back in with a sleeper truck. That is the only Advantage there is over a sleeper truck with the day cab.
Other than a small sacrifice in Mobility the sleeper truck is all advantage over the day cab.
And no, all permits for day cabs and sleepers are the same.
Is there a reason that you prefer the day cab?

I haven’t really thought about the HOS aspect of it but my guess would be to log it like a 10hr break. I know the new Eld system kicked in a year ago or but I haven’t used that ina while so not sure how that would come into play for daycabs
