I just checked my atlas, & NM says 57'6" for semi trailer. So it is entirely possible to have say a 48' lower & 8' upper, and still be legal at 56' trailer length..

Hell, it'd sounds like a versatile setup if one was to run just TX, NM, AZ, CO, WY, KS, OK, LA.. There's a few more but my pic is kinda blurry..

I don't want to call the guy a liar either, because I guess a 5' upper is possible if someone really wanted it built that way..? But even with an 8' upper & 13" kingpin you'd still come up a little short of center of drives on a tandem truck..
Dorsey & Fontaine both said no to me when I asked for 48' step with 8' upper.. Funny enough I've seen a 1998 steel & wood Fontaine 8 & 40 stepdeck before.. LoL

This guy has the same 8' & 40'5" setup as I do. Looks like the front of trailer is about center of drives, so kingpin is ~12" aft of drive center. Still works though..

Since I drive for Western Express I’m able to park where others aren’t allowed, such as in the center where it looks like a baseball diamond LMAO

I thought it was a straight up answer.

Sometimes your the bug.... sometimes your the windshield. I don't worry about it but I sure ain't gonna drive in and say here I am...inspect me...

I know alot more but I sure ain't gonna put it on a public forum.
