I do wish you luck. I am sorry if I cam across as negative. It's just that I can't understand why some companies don't pay their drivers for all of their time? I think if your work it, you should be paid for it.
I agree that 6 days off are better than 4. I understand that they are otr. Just pay the driver their time on duty. I think it is the least they can do to compensate them for being away from home.
I work for Airgas. We get paid hourly for all of our time. So there are good companies out there. I wish that you could come work for us. I still stand by my thought that if a company has to advertise, it is not for the drivers benefit.
Keep us informed on how it goes at Schnieder Bulk. Again, good luck.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Starting a new job with Schneiders tank division next week.

I driver for Schnieder on a dedicated account, pulling vans. I like what I do, but I've been considering tanks. May take the jump at the beginning of 2010. I spoke to a Schnieder tank driver last week. He lived near Cleveland Oh. He stayed out 6 weeks at a time, by his own choice. He said he loved it. He only loads or unloads about 30% of the time. He said his miles were just over 2500 a week, as of lately. Please keep me posted on how you're doing!! Thanks for the thread!
onetime42 Thanks this. -
I haul milk. It was great. The only thing wrong was the tank. no baffles. if you didnt time it right. it was hard to shift.

I tried to register there and they (webmaster) denied my account. I was actually turned down due to the fact that I have a rather "unusual" email address. I think I'll just stick to this forum for the time being.

We get spammed so much from gmail accounts, I can see why they would be weary
Thats ok we like you here
onetime42 and kickin chicken Thank this. -
Thanks for the flowers. To be honest, the only reason that I use gmail exclusively is because it synchronizes easily with my smartphone. Most people get a laugh when they see that particular email address. If people like that can't find humor in something as simple as that they must have a very boring life....or be married to a really big woman.
Baack Thanks this. -
Man i worked for them for 9 wonderful months! it was great!!! i will tell you that what they say is true about the six days at home a month. i wish i had never left!
-
You can always go back to them! I have 3 more days of training/orientation and then I'm done. They really like to make sure that you know how to use both methods of unloading whether it be with a hydrapak or with an air compressor. It's nothing new to me. You just have to be preparred to drag out some hoses at any given time. I'll keep everyone posted once I'm out on my own.jtrnr1951 Thanks this.

Hey Bduke
We all wish we could get a job like the one you have ...

It is #### hard these days to get a job here in Florida without going OTR for weeks at at time and even if you decide to do that good luck finding a company that is hiring in Florida - it is near on impossible and oh yeah add to the fact that I am a female.....what can I say...

I have seen Schnieder Tank advertising a lot where I live too and to be honest have been considering it, I dont have any tanker experience and the add says thats okay. I am not afraid of hard work, have flatbed experience...just not sure what to do. I am running mail right now and it pays really good but one run every two weeks is just not enough.
Hopefully onetime42 can keep us up to date on what it is like...good luck. -
Had I not hired on with Superior Carriers I would have started with Schnieder Bulk. Tanks are not bad once you get used to the surge. Its much easier than flatbed but more physical than box or reefer. No sliding tandems, customers are glad to see you and they are smaller. If you are a safe driver in a box you will be fine. Tailgate and jerk it around in traffic when loaded and you will be on your side.Sacred Feline Thanks this.
