Can I car haul a 5 car trailer and dually with temp plates. I will be picking up the equipment from NY and will have 30 day temp plates to go back and register in Florida.
I want to pick up a load on the way down to cut cost. Is this possible?

I have my own authority and all the needed coverage.

No. Temporary or in-transit tags are only good unladen. No loads at all, except your own personal car if you drove up to get the rig and even then some states may give you a hard time.

I worked with 3 new trailers i had for as long as the temp plate allowed. I didn't know this was illegal. I ran the whole eastern USA. Even had my first inspection with a temp plate on the trailer. Haven't had an issue or remark about it either. Maybe I am just lucky.

You are not alone, many of the dealers I work with don't even understand this. Usually on the fine print for the temp tag or somewhere in the application for it that the dealer or you fill out it will say unladen only. Many of these temporary plates when issued to a commercial vehicle are really only designed for a single trip to get the vehicle back home for proper registration yet folks use them every day for the entire length they were issued for.

Now, the temporary apportioned registration is a weight permit which means you can run loaded without an issue. Also since just as many law enforcement officers are in the dark regarding in-transit temporary registration many will let it go because they don't understand the regulations.

I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOUR LUCK! But I don't want to take any chances. you are not the only person that tells me they have done it. But I have so many other people telling me I can't IDK if I should take the chance. It would be my first run as an owner operator and I would hate to get fined or put out of service.

I want to risk it, but I am honestly afraid of a fine I wont be able to afford. My plan is to spend most of my time up North East and having the truck sitting and not making me money as soon as I bring it out will only make a bigger dent in my pocket. I'm torned! NOT to MENTION that the agencies sin FL are working with weeks of delay which make the process even longer.

Then don't use an agency? You can walk in at the Tallahassee location and do everything you need to same day.

I can even walk into my local DMV in jacksonville for trailer tags etc.

Not sure what your issue is?
