Maybe down the road I'll feel more comfortable with the idea. I've decided for me, right now, this won't happen.
I appreciate the info you provided however!

You do have to have liability in your name as well as cargo. Check with dot. Your authority will be revoked.

that's what i was saying, if someone leases to you, the company with the authority has to have liability and cargo in the name of the authority.

The plates and Insurance is the expensive part anyway, why doesn't he want to come up with the extra $300 for the MC number? I'm confused. LOL

this is the requirements to have an MC number. Got to dot.gov They (the government) will not activate your authority without this insurance in place. Trucking 101

Thats is a true statement. However we are refering to the leased on trucks insurance requirements as to whether it (liability ins.) must be in the MC holders name or if it can be in the truck owners name. I contend that only the cargo insurance must be held by the MC holder NOT the liability insurance. While many companies insist on it being through them it is not a requirement. It makes the disbursement of paperwork easier for the broker but its not a neccesity. The broker will simply have to issue a different insurance certificate for the assigned truck for each load which could get hairy if they had several trucks and several insurance holders.
