I guess they dont load too many owner operators who care ...mostly steering wheel holders. One of my exdrivers had load shifted because of improper securement ...i got lucky to not have any damage on my conestoga . No mater how many trucks loader did per day - cant fix stupid ...maybe no one ever explained him from the first time how to do it right way .... And even after first guy explained him what he did wrong he kept his way

I've been saying that for years. About 4 years ago I had a local steel shipper Klockner call me and ask to make local delivery's. One of there customers said I'm not unloading that truck it's going to rain. It would have taken 1 pick with the forklift in 25 feet of the warehouse to unload in about 30 seconds. The fast approaching storm I covered it back up but they said it was too wet. Filed a claim with my insurance. I never tarped a load after that. I threw away my tarps and have made out just fine without them.
Brokers also don't pay extra for tarping. They claim it's "built in" but it should be added as an extra charge. The reality is the shippers are too cheap to cover the freight for weather and expect it to be a free service for the trucking company to basically provide a warranty(tarping) for transportation that there not paying for.Last edited: Dec 9, 2020

Klockner metals is definitely on my avoid list... Dubuque, Iowa and Indianapolis locations do not value a truckers time. Won't make those mistakes again.Last edited: Dec 9, 2020

You should say who the shipper is on this so others can avoid them.

I didn't read all of this yet but I would have left the second they said stay in your truck while we load this massive massive load of stuff on your trailer. I have left for WAY less....and it has never effected my business negatively. I don't even get in to why....I just tell the broker no and I go. Granted, I have only had to do this like 5 times in 20 years of off and on driving. 2 times in the last 6 years under my own authority. The bottom line is if you irritate me in any way whatsoever I will probably bounce. I didn't get this far being told what to do.

For me it starts right at the gate. Respect or F off. I pulled out of here a couple of weeks ago and had a better load within minutes. The gate ###### ran his mouth and that was all I needed. Buh bye.

I am always sure to say, "Have a nice day", every time this happens too. I don't go to their level and never let it effect my day. Although I do remember each and every one of these incidents,

BS my going rate for tarps is 100 minimum. That rate goes higher for the difficulty of the load.... Those conveyor belts i hauled to mississippi. Was 500 dollar charge to tarp , plus the cost of any patchwork that needed to be done or the cost of replacing the entire tarp.....negotiated directly on top of the rate... if the broker doesnt accept that then we dont haul the ####.. Why work for free ?Sirscrapntruckalot, Czar_Zero, PoleCrusher and 6 others Thank this.
