I recently did a trip from Toronto ON to Truro NS. It was my first OTR trip within Canada in about 4 years. Surprisingly I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was double lane nearly all the way down except for a short 40km or so portion. It was good not having to worry about crossing the border (the lines/x-ray) and running on paper logs I felt stress free nearly the entire drive.
The truck stops (irving) are nearly every 70km or so and they always have parking. I never had an issue finding parking.
I was curious to know what you guys think on the pros and cons of running USA or Canada only OTR.
Running Canada OTR vs USA.

.. did you do that trip in Autumn? just now? do it again in the winter. And don't get used to paper logs, only another few months left of that
Other then that, the Maritime folks are awesome, super friendly, and I miss visiting them.magoo68, Farmtractor9900, Canadianhauler21 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Honestly? Pretty boring. Also a lot of old tight docks, with people working there who hate drivers and their lives in General. The Maratimes is a bit of a special case, but everything west of that kind of sucks (esp BC).
The only part of the US I don't like, is the NE (and the Detroit Windsor crossing), everything else in the US is amazing IMHO (if only the exchange rate was better). Los Angles/California in General is always a special challenge, but its better now than it used to be.
I guess being in Toronto, its hard to avoid the NE US doing OTR. So I can see why you might be fed up with it. My advice is to just run everywhere, and keep things fresh. Except NYC/NJ, that's just a waste of time and life.Ol'Shusquatch, Elroythekid and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
I have stayed a 300 mile radius of home for the past 24 years,,,no Toronto,,wont even go to Winnipeg. Not worth the aggravation of big cities even if I never see any 4 lane

I concur with the BigHoss man, however, with emphasis on the American West, and South-West. It's some of the most amazing and fun truckin' you'll probably ever do. Except the I5, forget the I5, and LA, and San Fran, forget it. Seattle too, and Sacramento, stay out of border towns as well, oh and Bakersfield. But everything else is a beauty. I used to love the run down from BC (WA through Snoqualmie), Idaho, east side of Nevada, Vegas, Phoenix, and that area, and then up through Salt Lake (pass grand canyon), Wyoming sometimes my god it's gorgeous!, and Montana, then up to Cow-Town, and back over the rockies to Hongcouver. What a beautiful run! Just thinking of it now makes we wanna forget all the disaster and get skippin' gears
I did East Coast for a bit and it was boring and dumb. No fun. No challenge. Flat terrain. How are you suppose to get better at trucking if you keep running on flat ground? All the good times and the fun are through the rockies and in white-out conditions, mostly. But the summertime is a joy too. Oh it's all great.Ol'Shusquatch and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
Bakersfield/Fresno/Sacramento aren't that bad now, because there are lots of truckstops out in the countryside, so you can get in/get out and its pretty easy peasy. LA will always be LA, I still can't believe I was on pretty much a dedicated lane down there to Ontario for 6 months. Both I15 and I5, the new truckstops they built in Jurupa Valley and Fontana did absolutely nothing to help with the parking problem.
My favorite California runs these days, are Delivering in Sacramento/Tracy/Stockton/Manteca or Livermore. Then its down the I5 to the CA 152 over Las Bano's to pickup in Salina's! OMG Salina's, such a great little place, sorta run down, but some great shippers, always amazing weather, the best Taco Trucks and Mexican BBQ around, Just don't try to park at the Pilot; it's not gonna happen.
My second favorite run, is deliver in Phoenix AZ, then take I-10 out to Barstow (I like CA62 at Palm Springs to CA247 into the backside of Barstow) then out to Bakersfield/Fresno on the CA58 past Mojave. Run around there picking up produce, then back to Barstow and off to Vegas and back to where-ever.Canadianhauler21 Thanks this. -
I did so much east coast, Ohio, Michigan, NY etc. Basically all border states. So bored of just driving to the same places.
The run to Nova Scotia barely had any truck traffic, roads were clean, although it got to -25°C at the lowest, froze my ### off. It was one of the most peaceful drives I've ever done, thinking of doing it dedicated.Elroythekid Thanks this. -
Where abouts are you running?

Line Haul,, 300 mile radius of Thunder Bay past 23 years

Maybe I misunderstand what you're saying but I thought you're only allowed to deliver to one stop, and pickup at one stop then you have to head back to Canada. I thought you're not allowed to be running around in the states.
