Update:3 weeks and 12,900 miles later KW is still running like a top. Currently on a load from Pocatello,Idaho to Wilmington,Illinois. 2 days ago got pulled in for a Level 3 inspection courtesy of Wyoming Highway Patrol DOT at the Kemmerer Port Of Entry.![]()
No violations=Paycheck is going to be a little heavier this week. DOT officer was really friendly (they usually are in Wyoming based on my experiences). She checked the tractor and trailer registration, load paperwork ,my license and my logs-and naturally everything was in order.

The good ol "come in here" port of entry as I call it. Been driving 5 years and so far I have only gotten lv 3s and a 2 three times. Plus one in Canada that was a lv 3 out of 5 levels. It was closer to a lv 2 in USA but a bit more detailed but not as thorough as a lv 1.... I call it a level 1.5 haha. Level 3 is easy to pass. As long as you are not running outlaw on the logs and you have all your required paperwork and permits you're good to go. Level 2 though that can be annoying because there's things they check for that could be fine last time you stopped but broke since then.... Like marker lights. No way to know it went out during transit but dot don't care they'll smack you with those csa points, 3 for each one, tripled for first year (9 points), then double year 2 finally just the 3 for the 3rd and final year till they fall off record at the end of year 3.

Well so far 6 years of driving and counting I’ve had:
1 Level 1(California)
4 Level 2(Pennsylvania,Kansas,Tennessee,North Carolina,New York-that one I was bobtailing)
1 Level 3(Wyoming)
California and New York were the worst ones,California because of the Banning scales on I-10(apparently it’s their “training scalehouse”) and New York pulled me in because the HUT sticker wasn’t installed on the truck-I wasn’t cited by Marten was found in violation-even though I had warned the company about the issue months prior.
Now usually when I pass through Wyoming (either Cheyenne,Sundance or Evanston) they just ask to see the tractor registration, insurance and load paperwork and my license and then they send me on my way(usually 5-10 minutes at the most). However since I came down US 30 out of Idaho I ended up going by Kemmerer. And they were weighing everyone.Last edited: Dec 23, 2020
