That's another reason I'm keeping the DOC. As I mentioned, its job is to cook any bits of unburned and incompletely-burned fuel and oil left over. Modern DOC's do a great job of it, with efficiencies of 90% of better. And they also help oxidise 20-40% of the soot (carbon) into CO2 as well, so by keeping the DOC I could see the risk of clogging the catalyst to be reduced significantly.

I can understand why people dislike emissions systems. Being derated is terrible, compounded by taking it into some of these shops where the people working on them barely understand the systems. But without any math, how can anyone make an informed decision? For example, what amount of increased NOx is acceptable vs the increase in fuel mileage?

A focus on renewable biofuels can solve the problem of sustainability, but it doesn't have any solutions to combat air pollution. Electricity can be generated in multiple ways, with the idea of tackling sustainability and air pollution simultaneously. I believe there is more hope for a potential breakthrough in energy generation, like cold fusion, than there is for developing a fuel that can burn clean.

It's also natural that people think with their wallets. It's easy to dismiss something that is invisible, or not apparent where they live. Are the sensors just making up numbers and randomly reporting NOx faults? Are the people responsible for pushing EPA mandates major shareholders in DEF manufacturers or something?

My 6.7L Cummins in my Ram is deleted, and I noticed a sharp increase in MPG immediately.

But how much is sharp? Was NOx output also sharply increased?

Probably, but that's the least of my concerns. I was more interested in the roughly 20-30% MPG gain.
