    Hello, this is my CENSORED WORDbox. I had a Volvo before this but it committed suicide in PA and burned itself to the ground. I’m an O/O and it says I’m a “bobtail member” but as you can see, I have a trailer. I kid, but anywho, I am a first generation trucker and the only one in my family to not graduate from college who has held a class A CDL in good standings since 2003, a million+ mile accident free driver (9 or 10 years of driving in that time), and started from $0 dollars to get to where I am. I’ve done car hauling, dry van, intermodal, and currently do reefer and have done both local/regional and OTR work. Merry Christmas.

    Welcome aboard, don't feel bad, most of us here never went to college either. School of Hard Knocks, different story, we all graduated from that college. To be clear, the "bobtail member" has nothing to do with your skills, you're over qualified for this here site.

    Welcome to the forum and you do have a great looking ride. College wasn’t exactly my thing either, but my parents forced me to go until my first career started and I could afford to move out of the house. Their house, their rules and I see their point many years later. My Dad who was an exec with major tobacco company had a real issue with me being a blue collar worker. My Mom who was a teacher was fine with it. Either way college wasn’t for me but I have managed somehow to feed myself and my family and put a roof over our heads.

    Welcome to the club.
    As I tell my friends, my brother was the smart one in the family because he started driving early and stuck with it instead of going to college. He now has 30 years of driving and is currenlty with a union company considering retirement in a few years.
    I started driving almost 25 years ago to put myself through college and graduate school. I've been working a "white collar" job for the past 20 years and became a owner-operator roughly 3 years ago. I currently drive part-time making a few runs a month in this beautiful part of the country (SW Colorado). I currently run flatbed and a few power-only runs.
    It is part of my "semi" retirement plan. I wish I started earlier.

    MY "semi" retired meant a different thing, the "semi" in me was retired. I live a stones throw from the hills, the BIG ones, and these poor saps hanging iron every trip over the passes, just not for me. I started driving trucks, because I couldn't believe I got paid to do that, with as little as "farm boy" training. I'm amazed someone would pay to learn to drive a truck, starting off on the wrong foot right off the bat.

    I too was younger when I got into driving and mistakenly became a Teamster, one of the youngest in the entire company, until some corrupt cops got me ####canned for $100 of mistakes in a 6 month period. They violated the contract and handled the termination proceedings all wrong and I never had a chance to defend myself because who am I to take on Local 710 and the power they have (like getting Obama elected to get the federal overwatch removed from daddy Hoffa’s day)? Guess being good at your job, ran circles around people, and abiding by the law isn’t enough if you ain’t sucking the right people off. Cost me everything I had including the woman I was going to marry. I swear the one cop laughed and said “truck drivers don’t make that much”. They thought I was stealing cars and dealing drugs. Never realized how detached from reality they are to think truck drivers don’t make more money than people who don’t really work. Not hating on police one bit, just a shame they think of us like that. Congrats on getting into driving though.
