That's not how you test coax, replacing it with a new peice is the cheapest way.
Did you replace your mount? If not, they do go bad.

I did run a new 18' coax out the window, and still the same. No, I did not replace the stud yet, but I did take it apart and inspect the plastic washer. -
Have you tried another SWR meter to see if it agrees with the first?
handlebar Thanks this. -
On that note, does anyone know of a CB shop that is handy with Galaxy radios? I would like to get things checked out. I am in IL, but do travel the Midwest. -
REPLACE the mount.
Once you replace the mount, then see with an external meter, low power what your SWR is. If it is a ground, then the new mount is going to last longer, they actually do have a life span.
AND the only really good way to test coax is to see what the loss is per foot, which can be done cheaply but complicated setup. When you check them with an ohm meter, all you are doing is checking for a short and an open. -
Timin770 Thanks this.

I will look into the guy in Gary IN. I go through there all the time. I think he is in the FJ with the Chrome shop and the Tarp repair shop if I am thinking of the same CB shop you are talking about. -
