Uniden Pro 520 XL jsut install one of these lilttle babies in my bro's jk trying to find a replacement mic for it other then stock , as a 2"x2" mic is verry hard to hold , what needs to be done inorder to have this unit accept any 4 pin mic ? , i heard you could rewire it somehow as this unit uses a condenser mic.

i woudl love to pickup a ASTATIC 636L and toss on this unit , jsut not sure the best way to go about it ....

10-4 drivers hit me back !

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Uniden Pro 520 uses the same 4 pin mic as most Cobras and Unidens do. Not sure what you mean by a condenser mic.

Condenser mikes use a mini preamp built into the mike .... If your going to gain something your new mike has to have more gain .....

Thanks for the heads up. i did not know this. Hmmmm.....would a power mic be a benefit?

Oh, and is it only the Uniden 520's that use this "condenser mic"? Do the 510's use them? Are there any other small radios that use them?

LOTS of radios use those mikes like the MAG-257 and HTX-10

check with uniden and see if they have spects on the stock mike

What about the older Cobra 19's? Like the ones made in 1979?

I've got a bud with a kaput 510 and the mic connection is a six pin half moon.
A replacement (I was hoping 'till I found it was kaput) I got for him was the 520 which had the conventional 4 pin connector
