I need to get a physical on my dime
    Currently on a little hiatus.
Question is when getting my physical do I have to pay extra for a drug test?
Or do I even need one? I figure if and or when I go back to driving my next employer will have me take one

Drug screens normally are NOT part of a physical. They will collect urine, but only to test for diabetes.

If your current CDL is active and you let the physical lapse at some point you are going to have to take action. If all is OK with you I say go on ahead and do the physical. Might even be able to avoid another one later.

I read something about the waiver, but forgot if they extended it or not. There’s a form you can fill out saying that you only run intrastate. It allows you to keep cdl without med card. @kemosabi49

They extended it till 12/31/20, but I'm not finding anything longer on FMCSA's website....

As to the op, depending on state he can also simply certify as exempt which drops you to Intrastate only, but it saves the hassle and expense of a physical. Once you want to work again, simply certify again and give them the short form and all is good.

Here it is, they make it hard to find...
    "4.
