Hey, thanks a bunch guys. Will google "Vibratech". any online sources?
Engine seems to be very sound, hasn't used hardly enough oil the last 3 changes to add to...we don't work it too hard, but Ive always been of the thought process that having plenty of hp to utilize correctly makes engines run easier and longer.
Thats my goal with this ol' girl. It was beat up pretty bad when I got it.
Gotta get the cab suspension going though, little rough unloaded, lol

Thought I would add to this thread and say how awesome of a upgrade this turbo is over stock. I can roll along grossing 85,000 at about 1400 rpms, 70-75pmh in 13th.
Engine temps is pretty steady and egts post turbo 750-850 degrees. Have to drop out of the high side on some hills but wonderful addition it is...boost on steep hills will max out at about 28-30psiif I keep my foot in it. Dont know what that equates to hp wise but she pulls great.Oxbow Thanks this. -
I know I'm reviving an old thread.
I'm looking for a new turbo for an old 3406B. Sounds like the 177148 is the turbo to go with. Where did everyone order their turbos from? A lot of online sites I see say the 177148 is for a 3406E not the 3406B. Just don't want to order the wrong turbo. Thank youRideandrepair Thanks this. -
Read all the earlier posts in this thread. Most of the info is here already. I put that very same turbo on my 7fb 3406b about two years ago. Minor modification to the oil lines but straight forward application. It really woke my motor up. Especially after I turned the screws too. I don't remember where I actually purchased it. Maybe I said in an earlier posts. I'm sure I ordered it from the cheapest place I could find online.Rideandrepair and OldRed98 Thank this.

That turbo is actually for a 3406e but like I said, if you modify the oil lines, it'll bolt right on a 3406b also.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

This is the site I'm ordering my Turbo from: BorgWarner Turbocharger for Caterpillar 3406 3456 C16 – Prosource Diesel
They require an engine vin and are telling me its the wrong one. I know this one requires some modification of the oil line.
@704mover Nice turbo set up. Looks like you had a steel braided turbo oil line built? Is your truck intercooled? My turbo outlet looks different than yours. -
-
Mines not intercooled. I cut oil return line in half, put a compression fitting on with an off the shelf braided line from local industrial supply store.OldRed98 Thanks this.
