They do very good all around and hold up better than the DD 15.

I work on cummins and I love cummins engines. 2015 and under can have major internal issues if parts are not changed at the right time. Rather deal with oil leaks on the detroit.

From what i've heard from others that own them, says dd13 has more torque than the dd15.

A small block Chevy can make the same horsepower and in some cases the same torque as a big block. But the big block has a wider torque curve and lower horsepower peak so it’s more drivable in more circumstances . The dd13 can be had with more torque but it’s at a higher rpm and a tighter curve.. there’s a reason they promote it as a regional engine (flatland) imo PS the two trucks we have with a dd13 that are set at max torque are not popular in The Rockies so boss went back to dd15 only.

I'm a Detroit fan but curious about Cummins, what parts and at what time to avoid issues?

You're big/small block part is dead on, but the DD13 & DD15 have their torque peaks at the same 975 rpm, and peak power at 1625 rpm. IIRC the 15 has a little more clutch engagement torque, but the power curves are identical. I'd also assume the 15 has a touch more retarder power with 2 liters more displacement.

I run Colorado regularly (I live there) often above 80,000#, and my only complaint would be about the Jake needing to be a touch stouter.

I don't know if the 15 does it to the same level, but the 13 does start pulling back the boost level at higher rpms at higher altitude. By the time I hit the top of Loveland at almost 12,000', anything above ~1400 rpm will only give 80-85% power. It will still make almost 100% power below that rpm. The rpm where the boost is pulled back varies based on density altitude, so it's more of an issue in the summer. I've learned to just pull up power level on the DataStar and adjust shift points down as needed.
