So I am new to Class A and OTR. After getting my license and I got hired my trainer trained me for three days and said over and over again. NEVER move over or slow down for cars coming on the highway! Now, I do move over for trucks and if there is a long line of never ending cars that would force me to slow down.

A couple times I have been very heavy and driving up a mountain in PA and a guy would be on the ramp and match my speed. I am petal to the metal and still losing steam. He runs off the ramp into the shoulder before slamming on his brakes almost hitting the guard rail. Pulls up next to me and flicks me off. I already know I am number 1. Its better than last week when a guy pointed his handgun at me.

My company showed me a dashcam of car who did this but at the last minute cut the truck off and the load went through the trailer and hit his cab, car drove off like nothing happened.

Is it really legal for me to maintain my 65 mph and force the cars to hit their brakes to merge in behind me? What if they cut me off and I hit them? Who is at fault?

I see some truckers do move over if they can, trying to be nice I guess.

Not only is it legal for you to maintain lane it's the person's job to merge. One thing I was taught way back when I got my car license that still remains true.

"Little road yields to big road."

Unfortunately it seems no one actually knows this. What I do is if traffic allows and there is a line a vehicles on coming I'll get over, but it has to be dead on the expressway. I've been screwed too many times and got stuck in the left lane to want to move over as a general rule.

Also, never slow down for a vehicle merging. If you can't get over then they need to match your speed and it's impossible to when you slow down as they don't know what you are doing.

4 wheelers don't know how to merge. They are unable to comprehend that traffic on the highway has the right of way, and they have to yield. And of course, they also don't understand that that traffic is moving at highway speed and they need to speed up. With that said, it is legal to maintain your speed, and hold your lane as you have the right of way.

ok thanks. I just needed more confidence here because it seems like every day I almost get in an accident, or a guy with a gun, pissed off drivers, etc. I want to make sure that its not my fault. Because then I need to change.

I'll move for a truck if I can , even tho half of the billy big riggers will pass me on the right anyway or I gotta do 80 to get by them .
As far as 4 wheelers go it depends but I won't get in the left lane with traffic around me and if its an idiot on a phone to dam bad .

Not in all States in Ohio either slow down or move on to let them merge but never change lanes and that's the way I understood it..

Everyone was supposed to learn to merge at 16 when they first got a license. But very few ever did. Here's my 2 cents ... for whatever it's worth. Go ahead and get over if it's convenient for you. This is just a common courtesy. But you are not obligated to get over for them. If you can't get over... or simply don't feel like getting over maintain speed and hold your lane. They have 3 choices. Mash the gas and get in front , tap the brakes and fall in behind or stay beside me and get ran off into the grass.

I'd love to see that law because I'd be shocked if it's true.

I have personal experience cause I moved over for a 4 wheeler in Ohio...
State Trooper pulled me over and asked why I moved over and I replied that I was just being curious about the merger and he replied that that's not a safe move on my part. Either slow down or move on never change lanes unless it's a emergency..
