    Hello,
I am new to the forum and currently studying for a CDL A.
This will be a career change for me.
My end goal, if it is possible or even makes sense to strive for, would be to drive a large dump.
I'm totally green, I've never been behind the wheel of a truck nor do I understand the business.
I realize there is a lot to learn and I respect the industry. My dad , two uncles and my brother inlaw where
all drivers. I spent a lot of time as a kid in the passenger seat of my dads tanker.
Well, nice to have found a site like this.

Go for it. If you don't try, you'll never know for sure.
Use the Search function on TTR and you can find just about any kind of information you need. Do your studying and then you'll know the right questions to ask that will enable us to help you.

Hi, site pessimist here, and it's important to know what you're leaving to pursue a career in trucking. As for the site, most of us would have killed ( or at least maimed) for a site like this. Years ago, it was trial and error, but changing jobs didn't have the consequences, like today. You certainly have a leg up, many do this without a clue, or the last resort. Dump trucking is incredibly boring, and starting out, you'll probably have to "settle" for a "basic" OTR job, until you get your sea legs, probably a year, then specialize to what you want. I don't suggest dump truck, and a tanker, like you are familiar with, if you want regional, is a much better job. Good luck, get the CDL, and a member here named "Chinatown" is our self appointed job finder and can help with that.

Some dump truck companies will hire a new cdl school grad.
Robertson's in California and Las Vegas does. May not have dump trucks there though.

You've found a great web site for truckers probably one of the best on the WWW lots of information in here and if it isn't you can just ask the question and somebody will usually come up with a useful answer or not. Yes be aware there is a lot of B/S as well you'll just have learn to disseminate between the baloney and the truth.
