The warheads are removable you know.

Yea. I love how the article mentions they are inert and just training bombs, but how unusual it it to ship nuclear bombs this way. Umm.. It's not a nuclear bomb if there is no bomb inside. Heck, I'd be surprised if there is even a motor and guidance package inside either. They are likely simply the casing.

Gravity bombs don’t have guidance systems. They follow a ballistic trajectory. Closest thing to a motor you might find in it is a contact fuse for ground burst/penetration or an altimeter fuse for air burst.ZVar Thanks this.

While in the Navy, we had bombs on racks like that for use in our NTPI training and certification. We had to treat then as if they were live. Then when they were unloaded off the ship, they were knocked around and loaded on flat beds to send to the next ship for training.
ZVar Thanks this. -
A) - Driver has no wheel chocks nailed in front/rear of racks.
*(Yes, I know there are locks on these type of wheels.)
B) - Each bomb rack has attachment points at corners, top/bottom.
Use hooks to these, and under rail to truck. More secure.
Takes more straps is not a good reason not to use them.
C) - Not sure the straps over, and in contact w/bomb rack frame
is a good idea; can rub thru and break strap?
D) - Why not just tarp/hide the load? Sharp fins might cut up tarp?Last edited: Jan 1, 2021
