I will keep an eye out for him. I always like to read how it's going there in Montana with people in training.

Well. After working with recruiting and others at WS it has been determined that I need a 40 hour refresher course in order to qualify to go back. I am looking into that and analyzing where the $1,000+ that takes would come from. Being out of work a while need what little is coming in to pay bills. The wife and kids like to have a place to live and food to eat.

Also, deciding if it is worth spending 2 weeks pay to get in. Guess so. It would be like working 2 weeks for free - the effect on my budget anyway.

    All the new guys enjoy!

Wanted to post this here as well
Just wanted to say hello and thank everyone for their feedback on this thread. I'm new here, having only monitored this site for a few months. You all seem straight forward, which is much appreciated from an outsider looking in and contemplating their future decisions on which company to go with.

As for me, I'm currently in CDL school out of Hayward, CA.. I'm just completing my license training, as well as, my research on establishing a driving position with a good company. Gotta tell you, I’m sure all of you veterans can remember the days of when you wore the boots of a rookie, anticipating the same decision that I have made applying with W/S. Thanks again for inviting a rookie like me into your forum to ask questions on my future endeavor. As for questions, the two that I have right now are… Does anyone have any insight on the Modesto, CA terminal? In a perfect world I would like to run regionally, is that something that I can anticipate doing within the first six month’s of employment? Question number two is…Unloading/Moving furniture? I am strong and willing; I just want to know what I’m getting into before hand.

One of the current guys will have to tell you about Modesto. I'm no longer with them. They were a bit slow on the regional, before i left.

But the furniture....isn't a problem. Except for the whiners. I'm 49 years old, and still unload it. My neighbor is 70, he still unloads it.

Some of it is heavy as hell. But that's what handcarts are made for.

Besides, you only have to tailgate it (take it to the rear). You don't actually "unload" the trailer.

as i have posted about an hour ago, its hard to get on as a local or shortline driver with W/S right away, you have to prove yourself by driving with them for a year and then hope there is an opening, the shortline jobs pay well and in my case i wont' be giving it up soon, with shortline i'm home all weekends and i'm home 4 out of 5 nights during a work week

Thanks a bunch for the information guys...
Yeah, I figured that I would do some driving before hand, not an issue. I did leave a message with Roxy a couple days ago, anyway, I'll try her again during business hours this week. In the meantime, If anyone from the W/S office catches this post; I just wanted to be sure that you are looking for drivers out of the Modesto, CA. terminal. If you are, do you have any tentative dates of when you're planning to have the next 10 day orientations? I know that we're getting into the holiday season. Perhaps this year or next (Jan / Feb).
