New Antenna for a 379

I would go with the double coil and use a clamp style bracket with a heavy duty mount. When I first got mine years ago I got a single coil from sparkys, I was over 14' when tuning it. I called Kale, the guy who makes them, and he said sparkys should know better than selling a single coil for a mirror mount. He sent me the 2nd coil, it tunes below 13'6" and works great. Effingham cb isn't in the petro anymore, they set up in the peterbilt dealership. I got a 9" shaft, double coil.

 

Personally I wouldn't mess with those big heavy wind catching coil antennas, but that's just me. I drove a 2006 378 Peterbilt for over 10 years, and I had a Hustler FG27S 4ft antenna on it. About 7 years later with lots of rough gravel roads and railroad tracks that I drove over on a daily basis delivering loads, the antenna finally broke off. I put one on my boss's truck too, and it still looks like brand-new on his truck. I thought about getting the Hustler HQ27 antenna which is 55 inches tall. I just never got around to trying that antenna, but I think it would be great on your truck. I don't think it's a big deal to go over 13 ft 6 inches with an antenna. Most streetlights are over 14 feet high anyway.
You didn't mention if your running an amp, but these Hustler antennas can handle 250 watts.
If you're just running the galaxy, this antenna should work just fine.

 

Hustler antennas have been around years, but if I remember right they sold out a few years ago and the quality had gone down. The Predator antenna will out preform the Hustler hands down. You do need a heavy duty clamp style bracket and yes you can run a single coil on a mirror mount will it be over 13'6 yes but will you break it? No, they are well built antennas just mount on the driver's side.

Well, I have no idea if the quality has gone down on Hustler antennas. All I know is that I owned 3 of the FG27S antennas and I have no complaints about quality. After all, they are stainless steel antennas.
As I mentioned, it was many years of abuse before the antenna on my truck broke. The antenna on my boss's truck is still going strong, and the 3rd antenna is still new (never been used) at home. I've read about great performance from other people using the HQ27 55 inch antenna. I just never got around to trying one on the old Pete. I'm sure it would have worked a little better, since it is taller than the FG27 48 inch antenna.

 

Dbl coil is ment to get over all beight down..A comp 10k is gonna be tall...
If anything a 5 ft skip shooter will do just fine..
