Snow chains

If I wanted to get political I would just say, that's why you don't buy this Chinese crap, but I don't want that.
So why were you torturing those cheap chains like that?

 

yea when you run them on payment. i use to see pieces of chains or the set on I-90 coming out of seattle by the TA before the pass. i ran out there every week from nc. never once put on a chain. i always carried 4 bags of singles.(8 single chains). only do the outsides of the tires.

 

Cheap or expensive, chains were the bane of my existence as a driver. One reason I hated going north of I 70 west of the Mississippi River in the winter. Took longer to install them with gloves on, and by the time I got them on my bare hands were numb. This is not something I will ever miss!

 

No ,I'd just buy the heavy bastages in the feed sacks. Orange bungee with the 6 hooks help a lot..I can get 2 or 3 seasons out of them.

 

We carry Pewags. Believe it or not, I haven't chained up in 10 years and I'm in Alaska. Advantages of a dedicated route that has no big hills and good snow removal crews.

 

I used the ones in the bags issued by a company i used to work for. Ran 70 west of denver a lot and never had any problems with them. I don't recall using bunges on them. Just made sure i always got em on nice am tight with no kinks anywhere. They always stayed tight an worked real well.

 

Nothing wrong with Pewag. Trygg has been my preferred brand and like Pewag, they're not cheap. They even have a lightweight chain that I had very good experience with.

All our trucks were equipped with chain pliers, spare crossbars and other parts.

 

I've abused the hell out of chains. I can only think they weren't on the tire properly to break. If you wanted a cheap repair you could always just buy a stronger link that screws on from the hardware store. Or cut the old one out with bolt cutters and put a whole new section in

Just my preference but I like triple rails squared. They seem to grip a little better in the muck.
